Staffing at the CenterStudents and institutions especially will want the opportunity of easy access to each of the Staff of the Center. David C. Koch, A.C.P.E., B.C.C., M.Div.David was educated in CPE with a first unit in 1971 in Anchorage, Alaska, then a residency at (then) Emmanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon, then a second residency at Philadelphia State Hospital, where he also took supervisory training, and was certified an Acting Supervisor in 1975. He reached full Supervisor status in 1982 while directing a new pastoral care department at Memorial Hospital of Burlington County in Mt. Holly, New Jersey. After two years at Riverside Hospital in Toledo, beginning in 1985, and nine months at C. S. Mott, University of Michigan Hospitals, David started what was at the time a unique CPE program at the Samaritan Counseling Center of Toledo, on June 1, 1988. David C. Koch is now the Executive Director of the Spiritual Care and Education Center.
Daryl M. Hanson, A.C.P.E., M.Div.Daryl is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. He graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri. He was the Pastor of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Toledo, having served as their part-time Pastor until 2004. Daryl has been a Parish Pastor from 1978 but is not serving a parish at this time. He had been an Associate Supervisor in the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education since November, 2000; and was certified as an ACPE Supervisor in 2003. He has been with the Spiritual Care and Education Center since its beginning.
Retired 9/1/05 R. Reuben Drefs, A.C.P.E., M.Div., S.T.D., D.Min.Reuben was educated in CPE from 1967 to 1969, at Andover Newton Theological School. He trained under John I. Smith, an organizer of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. Reuben gained Diplomat status in the Association of American Pastoral Counselors in 1985; and took Gestalt Therapy training from 1975 to 1984. He conducted a pastoral counseling practice; and supervised in mental health settings in the early 1970's, and at Methodist Hospital, Peoria, IL, from 1990 to 1993, prior to arriving at Samaritan Counseling Center of Toledo in 1993. R. Reuben Drefs was an ACPE Supervisor of the Spiritual Care and Education Center until his retirement.
Catherine Slabaugh, M.Div. Cathie was educated at the Anderson Theological Seminary in Anderson, Indiana. She took one unit of CPE at Bloomington Hospital, Bloomington, Indiana. Since 2003 she has been our SCEC Office Manager.
